The Dish: Fort Worth restaurants firing up fresh starts, revivals this spring

Who doesn’t love a comeback story? There’s a reason they are a popular trope in literature and entertainment. We like rooting for an underdog and watching them rise up, renewed and revitalized. Such stories are a reminder of what can be accomplished through passion and commitment.

Restaurants can also undergo a metamorphosis through new management, reworked menus, or even – as in Duchess’s case – breathing new life into a historic building. Here are some revivals taking shape in Fort Worth.

Orders are in at the new – old – Margie’s Italian Gardens

Arguably one of the most highly anticipated restaurant reopenings in Fort Worth is that of Margie’s Italian Gardens, which just began serving dinner once more – albeit quietly – on Camp Bowie West Boulevard. The original Margie’s opened in 1953 and closed in the 1990s, followed by a revamped version which operated from 1997 to 2023.

Gigi Howell, operating partner at Westland Restaurant Group, which bought the restaurant in 2023, informed followers on Facebook that the new menu reflects that of the original restaurant, meaning the trash can salad is out and Italian chop salad is in.

“We are not the Margie’s that closed in ’23,” Howell said in the video message, “we’re the Margie’s that opened in 1953.”

The menu showcases Italian classics such as lasagna, ravioli, minestrone soup and housemade pasta, along with shrimp scampi and build-your-own pizzas. They also offer gluten-free pastas and pizzas, cocktails and desserts. 9805 Camp Bowie W. Blvd., Fort Worth; 817-244-4301
