Roy Pope Takes the Next Step Toward a New Chapter

Roy Pope Grocery's round neon sign on its brick exterior

Roy Pope’s next chapter is moving forward. On September 29, 2026, the Fort Worth City Council approved a zoning amendment allowing restaurant use at the longtime grocery’s Merrick Street location, an important step in Westland Hospitality’s plans for the property.

A neighborhood fixture since 1943, Roy Pope is part of the history that makes Fort Worth’s Westside special. The planned restaurant will retain the Roy Pope name, connecting what comes next with the people and place that came before it.

For Westland Hospitality, the project continues a focus on giving familiar Fort Worth destinations a new chapter while honoring their roots.
